Chess lessons for beginners
Start with how each piece moves, how captures work and how to recognise check. Try the ideas on the board as you learn. Then explore basic principles: control the centre, develop your pieces and keep your king safe.
You can ask for a hint, a shorter explanation or the reason behind a move. The coaching settings let you choose how much help you receive.
Practise chess openings and understand their plans
Explore the London System and Accelerated London with White, or practise Black openings such as the Caro-Kann, French Defence and Queen’s Gambit Declined. Choose your colour and a variation from the lesson menu.
For example, in the Caro-Kann Advance Variation, White plays e5 after 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5. That advance gains space and establishes a pawn chain. Learning why a move defines a variation helps you recognise the opening and understand what to do next.
Play Stockfish with voice or text coaching
Choose White or Black and adjust Stockfish’s practice strength. The AI coach receives the board position and analysis so you can discuss threats, candidate moves and plans while you play. You can request best moves when you want more help, or practise with less assistance.
Stockfish practice ratings are approximate. The coach uses AI and can make mistakes; ask it to explain its reasoning and use the analysis tools when checking an idea.
Build a personal chess study plan
Save a study plan for your goals, including openings to practise, lessons and reading. Keep a book wish list and track your progress in your account. Use the study plan to return to your next task instead of choosing a new topic every time.
